HIKING AND BIKING IN SWITZERLAND

More and more people are choosing an active lifestyle, even on vacation. In Europe and all across the Alps , hiking/walking and biking are the activities of choice.

Switzerland has a plethora of marked hiking paths through lush country sides and quaint villages and towns. There are gently rolling hills progressing to challenging heights of mountain climbing routes for all level of enthusiasts.

From June on, when the last remnants of winter have disappeared, the Alpine spring flowers are in full bloom. It is one of the most beautiful times to hike or walk the trails of the Swiss Alps. Summer and fall are when many tourists seek fresh mountain air and the unspoiled peaceful nature.

There are many regions, different in language, geography, scenery, culture and cuisine within the borders of this small country. In the western part French is the predominant language. This wine growing region prides itself on the influence of their French neighbors. The Italian speaking Canton of Ticino, south of the Alps , has a distinctly Mediterranean climate and flavour. Most of central Switzerland is German speaking with a very unique dialect called Schweizerdeutsch. There are small pockets in the eastern alpine valleys where the old Romansch language survives.

Whether you choose a quaint country inn or an elegant five star hotel in a sophisticated town, the distinct local culture and cuisine are always present. The Swiss love good food and wine and always take time to enjoy their meals. After all, relaxation is as important as physical activity to renew your senses.
