The Russian Front
Moscow - Stalingrad - Kursk
September 3rd - 14th, 2010


As you arrive in the exciting City of Moscow, you begin one of the most fascinating Battlefield Tours in the world. You begin by visiting Red Square, The Kremlin, Lenin’s Tomb, and the magnificent Memorials and museums of Moscow. You will then travel down to Stalingrad (Volgograd) and visit the places of The Great Patriotic War where the Russian Armies and Citizens held back the might of the German Armies on the banks of the Volga River. You will see the magnificent Mamayev Kurgan Memorial, the Grain Elevator, the Panorama, and visit Kalach, the scene of the eventual encirclement of the German Army, and many other places of interest. You will then travel to Kursk and the site of probably the greatest tank battle in history.


ITINERARY

Day One - Sept 3: This evening you depart on your overnight flight to Moscow with dinner and breakfast onboard.

Day Two - Sept 4: Welcome to Moscow – where you will meet your Tour Manager and Guide, Bair Irincheev, and enjoy an orientation tour to our hotel for check in and early Welcome Dinner. Overnight - Moscow ( D )

Day Three - Sept 5: The day will start with the General City Tour including the Kremlin – the heart of Moscow. Here you will visit the Armoury Chamber - The State Armoury is the oldest museum in Russia. As its name implies, it contains many ancient weapons and armour, but you will also find a treasure trove of the beautiful crown jewels, gold-encrusted icons, bejeweled royal scepters and exquisitely carved thrones. This afternoon, you will visit the superb Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill. Displayd in the museum is a broad range of objects relating to the history of the Russian army, a rich collection of exhibits of the period of the Great Patriotic War. Overnight - Moscow ( B,D)

Day Four - Sept 6: After breakfast your day will begin with a visit to the underground Bunker of Stalin “Tagansky” – the actual Museum of the Cold War. Here you will have a great opportunity to learn incredible details by watching a documentary movie, sampling a soldier’s porridge and Russian vodka. In the afternoon, your departure to Volgograd on a comfortable train in first Class cabin. Overnight - Volgograd (B,D)

Day Five - Sept 7: Volgograd (ex-Stalingrad) - a place of fierce and decisive battle and a turning point - city in the W.W.II,. You will have a full exploratory tour of the Stalingrad battlefield including the Mamaev Hill - to see the statue of Mother Russia and Eternal Flame. This afternoon you will travel to Rossoshky (a small village), where you visit the Memorial “The Soldier’s Battlefield” and the Common Grave of the German soldiers. Overnight - Volgograd (B,D)

Day Six - Sept 8: This morning you will tour to the River Don where you visit Kalach , the Meeting of the Armies Memorial, the Don Bridge and the Soldiers Field. You will explore the way the German military troops finished their mobilization next to Stalingrad. Lunch and free time to explore. Overnight - Volgograd (B,D)

Day Seven - Sept 9: After breakfast, you will visit the panoramic museum of “The Battle under Stalingrad”. You will then take a walking tour in an open air museum of military history. Lunch and departure by coach to Voronezh where we will arrive later in the evening at our hotel. Overnight - Voronezh (B,D)

Day Eight - Sept 10: You begin today by exploring the City of Voronezh. After lunch, a visit to the Battlefields, the Arsenal (Museum of the Great Patriotic War), the exhibit of the War Arsenal and the cemetery of the Hungarian soldiers that fought with the German forces. Overnight - Vorenezh (B,D)

Day Nine - Sept 11: This morning, free time to have a morning walk in the center of Voronezh before lunch and departure to Kursk by coach. Be prepared to discover why the battle near Kursk is known as the biggest tank battle in the history of mankind and why the Nazi armies could not recover after this defeat. Overnight - Kursk (B,D)

Day Ten - Sept 12: After breakfast, you will visit the Battle of Kursk Museum before driving to Ponyri Station to look at the events within the Northern Shoulder. You will also see the Hungarian Memorial-Cemetery and the monument dedicated to the Miner Heros. Overnight - Kursk (B,D)

Day Eleven - Sept 13: This morning will begin with a drive to Jakovievo and to follow the 'death ride' of the Fourth Panzer Army. Explore the battlefield around Prokhorovka, the furthest extent of the German advance. Here, you wil visit the museum and monument at Prokhorovka (including the preserved trenches and gun empalcements, the famous Church of Saint Peter and Paul. Dinner and departure by train to Moscow at 22.15 Overnight - Train Travel (B,D)

Day Twelve - Sept 14: Arrival in Moscow this morning and some free and accompanied time to explore a little more of the city, also Bair will escort you on a Moscow metro tour and its role in WW II and a visit to WW II Stalin's bunker in Izmailovo. Overnight - Moscow (B,D)

Day Thirteen - Sept 15: After breakfast, you will be transferred to Moscow Airport for your flight back to Canada. Meals will be served onboard (B)
